Having an effective safety culture is a critical component of our successes. Communication is the key – trust is the cornerstone. The schools we build, the stadiums we erect, the high rises and shopping malls; the playgrounds and hospitals and the infrastructure projects we work on; they’re each a part of our legacy. They’re a sum of work greater than all of us, and for most of us, they are projects we can be proud of. How to Prepare for Increasing Demand for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Commercial Properties
Electric vehicle use is increasing rapidly as adoption becomes more mainstream and as more and more automakers are coming out with electric and hybrid model offerings. Rising gas prices are also contributing to the accelerated demand for electric vehicles.
Additional growth is on the horizon due to the U.S. Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act enacted in November which includes $7.5 billion to build out a national network of EV chargers across the country. This act is part of a larger national agenda aimed at reducing carbon emissions, which includes a goal to make 50% of all new vehicles sold in the United States zero-emission vehicles by the year 2030.

As you know, Governor Walz has issued a “stay at home” order requiring all Minnesotans to stay at home, subject to certain exceptions, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. OlympiaTech is considered an essential and critical business sector so we are exempt from this order pursuant to the Emergency Executive Order 20-20.
This means OlympiaTech will remain operational during this two-week period which begins on Friday March 27, 2020 at 11:59 PM and ends on Friday, April 10, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

OlympiaTech Educates Future Workforce on Construction Career Paths
On February 5, 2020, Mortenson Construction hosted a group of young women from Girls Taking Action at their headquarters office in Minneapolis for an event focused on construction careers. The goal of the event was to educate the future workforce about the many exciting career paths available in the construction industry. The event featured a variety of booths educating middle-school girls about different career choices including human resources, marketing, accounting, project management, virtual reality, construction field operations, and electrical construction.

OlympiaTech Electric Announces New President, Chad Gasca
OlympiaTech Electric has appointed Chad Gasca as its new president. Chad has been with OlympiaTech for 21 years and most recently served as vice president. He started his career with OlympiaTech as an electrical apprentice and has occupied many roles within the company. He is also the master electrician for OlympiaTech. Mr. Gasca will be taking the reins from 20-year president, Paul Kosmides who is a co-owner of OlympiaTech along with his sister and business partner, Seaen Kosmides.

Minneapolis Public Schools’ Adult Education Facility Breaks Ground
Construction has begun on the 3-story facility that will house the Minneapolis Public Schools’ Adult Education and Transition Plus programs which are currently being offered at other locations.
The MPS Adult Education program offers classes and resources for more than 6,000 adults annually in the areas of academics, workforce literacy, and basic life skills.

Finance & Commerce Top Projects of 2016
Finance & Commerce recognized it’s Top Projects of 2016 at its annual awards ceremony held on July 26, 2017 at Minneapolis Event Center. A panel of experts in construction and closely-related industries selected the 33 honorees for 2016. OlympiaTech was proud to have provided electrical construction services for two of the recognized projects including Hewing Hotel and Star Exhibits. The Hewing Hotel project entailed renovating the historic Jackson Building in Minneapolis’ North Loop neighborhood into a Nordic-influenced, boutique hotel. Star Exhibits was a design-build, new construction project to house Star’s Minneapolis headquarters.
AVI Systems Redesigns and Expands in Eden Prairie
AVI Systems, an employee-owned technology integration service company, redesigned and expanded it’s Eden Prairie, MN office from 35,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet. The redesign was part of a company-wide rebranding effort.

A New High-Tech Headquarters for Star Exhibits
A new 200,000 SF office, warehouse, and manufacturing facility was built for Star Exhibits, a tradeshow and retail design company. As the design-build electrical contractor on the project, OlympiaTech worked closely with Star Exhibits to understand its goals, requirements, areas of opportunity, and future capacity needs, to design a tailored facility-solution.

Rosedale Center Mall Renovation Underway
Work is well underway on the Rosedale Center expansion and renovation project. The two-year renovation project will include updates to the interior and exterior to provide an enhanced experience for visitors as well as a new parking deck and other exciting additions. The mall will remain open and fully operational during construction and the project should be complete in time for the 2017 holiday shopping season.
26-Story Apartment Tower Breaks Ground at University of Minnesota Campus
The newest housing development at the University of Minnesota campus is underway on the corner of Washington Avenue SE and Harvard Street. When completed, the 26-story tower will house 407 units and ground-floor retail space, comprising 429,041 square feet. The tower will boast views overlooking the Mississippi River, the University of Minnesota Campus, and the downtown Minneapolis skyline.

Minneapolis’ Historic Jackson Building Converted to Boutique Hotel
The historic Jackson Building located in the North Loop neighborhood of downtown Minneapolis was recently converted to a posh, boutique hotel. The building, which was once a farm equipment showroom, had taken on a new persona and will forever be known as the Hewing Hotel.
