Regional Shopping Mall, Ridgedale Center, Expands and Renovates
Ridgedale Center is an enclosed shopping mall located in Minnetonka, Minnesota, a western suburb of the Twin Cities. Ridgedale Center comprises 1,144,973 square feet of leaseable retail space, and contains approximately 120 retail tenants. It is currently owned and operated by General Growth Properties and anchored by JCPenney, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Sears. The expansive shopping mall received a major renovation in 2016 which included updates to the existing mall space and an expansion to accommodate the new Nordstrom department store as well as an additional 53,000 square feet of leasable mall space for upscale retail and dining amenities.
The electrical partner provided preconstruction design assist services, value-engineering consultation, and complete electrical design including site infrastructure, core and shell buildings, and integration of electrical systems. A retrofit lighting upgrade strategy was employed to reduce the lighting system’s energy use. Cutting-edge LED lighting and control systems were installed allowing for a reduction in energy consumption by more than 60%. The entire parking lot lighting was upgraded to LED. All of the 1000-watt, metal-halide, site-lighting fixtures were replaced with LED fixtures which improved efficiency by more than 70%. A custom, center-court LED fixture was designed and installed in the large atrium area to provide an innovative look to coincide with the aesthetic design of the mall renovation.
Ridgedale Center has set the precedence for regional shopping malls through its commitment to, and investment in, energy-efficiency.
