OlympiaTech Electric Receives WBE Excellence Award from Mortenson

OlympiaTech Electric was recently recognized for “WBE Excellence” by Mortenson Construction at the Mortenson Choice Awards. The WBE Excellence award is presented to an outstanding woman-owned firm that has worked on a project with Mortenson within the last two years. OlympiaTech was selected for its “excellent communication practices and strong commitment to teamwork” on the Fort Snelling revitalization project.

“Throughout the very long preconstruction phase of the project, OlympiaTech responded to questions and offered valuable feedback to the design team, even though, at that time, they were not guaranteed any contract on the project. Once awarded, this trade partner demonstrated a strong commitment to workforce diversity, ensuring more than one third of their hours were worked by women and by people of color on the project.”

Mortenson’s Choice Awards were created to formally thank and recognize those that have shown their commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the construction industry by recognizing their leadership and commitment to transforming our communities through economic empowerment and allyship. The awards program provides an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work done, and outcomes achieved, by Mortenson’s team members, project teams, trade partners, and community organizations.

The 2021 award categories included:

  • Team Member Excellence
  • Superintendent Excellence
  • Project Manager Excellence
  • Project Excellence in Supplier Diversity
  • Project Excellence in Workforce Diversity
  • Project of the Year
  • Trade Partner Excellence
  • WBE Excellence
  • MBE Excellence

Nominees were nominated by their peers and winners were selected by Mortenson’s community affairs selection committee. An awards ceremony was held Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Metropolitan Ballroom in Golden Valley, MN. OlympiaTech CEO Seaen Kosmides accepted the award on behalf of OlympiaTech.
